About us

OUR Vision

The vision of Mt. Olive is simply to be "About our Father's Business" (Lk. 2:49). That is, the business of transformative ministry, servanthood and making disciples.

OUR Mission

Our mission is to develop a compliment of ministries and services that seek to "transform lives" (Rom. 12:2), "serve the least of these" (Matt. 25:4), and "make disciples" (Matt. 28:19) through the grace and power of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

OUR HISTORY

Established in 1870, Mt. Olive has a rich history that spans 140 years. The founders were brothers Dumps Long, George Scott, Thomas Sullen, members of the Shiloh Baptist Church of McDonough, Georgia and many others.

The people of Mt. Olive decided to build a place of worship so they built a Brush Arbor across the street in front of the present church site, where they began serving in 1872. Later, Mr. Eli Price gave the members two acres of land to build a church. A small, rough lumber frame church was erected where worship services were held for many years until it was later destroyed by fire. After the fire, services were held in a two-story lumber structure that served as a school and as the Oddfellow Lodge Hall.

In December, 2009, Rev. Dr. Terrance J. Gattis was called as the 16th Pastor of this historic church. During his pastorate, God has blessed the congregation to grow and prosper in many areas – from the completion of the church’s new Worship Center in November 2012, to the construction of the new Mt. Olive Community Outreach Center which will be completed in May, 2014, and to the creation of several new ministries.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

We Believe in the Triune God (The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit) - "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son; that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. The Spirit of Truth will guide you into all truth; He will not speak on His own, He Will speak only what He hears, and He will tell you what is yet to come" (John 3:16, 16:13).

We Believe that the Bible is the inspired Word Of God. - "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness "(II Timothy 3:16).

We Believe that we are saved by grace through faith In Jesus Christ. - "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; [it is] the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast "(Ephesians 2:8-9).

We Believe that each person is valuable and wonderfully created in God’s Image. - "I will praise You, for I am fearfully [and] wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And [that] my soul knows very well. (Psalm 139:14). God created man in His own image, in the image of God He create him; male and female He created them "(Genesis 1:27)

We Believe in the two greatest commandments. - "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.
All the law and the prophets hang on these two commandments" (John 17:21).

We Believe "You can be saved if you claim the love of Jesus Christ".

We Believe that “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (Rom. 10:9-10; 1 John 1:9)

We Believe that “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

We Believe in repentance. “I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.” (Luke 13:3)

We Believe that the Lord answers us when we call.  “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” (Revelations 3:20)

We Believe in obeying the Word of the Lord. “If you love me, Keep My Commandments.” (John 14:15)
